Unlocking 7 New Copilot Features to Transform Your Working Week

I know how overwhelming it can feel to juggle Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint just to get through your working week. If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for smarter ways to work. That’s why I’m excited to share seven brand new Copilot features that are set to change the way you use Microsoft 365.

1. Copilot Sidebar in Outlook

The new Copilot sidebar in Outlook lets you chat directly with Copilot, just like you do in Teams. You can ask it to summarise your emails from last week or get a quick overview of what needs your attention. It’s fully integrated, so you can also ask Copilot to summarise a specific email or help you schedule meetings. For busy professionals, this means less time spent searching and more time acting.

Use case: Quickly catch up on missed emails after annual leave or ask Copilot to draft meeting invites based on your calendar.

2. Audio Overviews in Word

Copilot now generates audio summaries of Word documents. You can listen to an overview of a report or proposal while commuting or multitasking. This is perfect for anyone who needs to stay updated but doesn’t have time to read lengthy documents.

Use case: Listen to a project update while preparing for a client call or review a marketing strategy on the go.

3. PowerPoint Creation from Excel Files

You can now use Excel files to generate PowerPoint presentations. Copilot will pull data from your spreadsheet and create slides, even generating charts that weren’t in the original file. This is a game changer for anyone presenting sales figures, project plans or financial reports.

Use case: Turn a list of overdue invoices into a visual presentation for your management team or create a project timeline from your Excel plan.

4. GPT 5 Integration in Copilot Chat

With the release of GPT 5, Copilot can now provide deeper reasoning and more detailed responses. When you ask Copilot to think deeper about a topic, it analyses your files and gives you richer insights. This is ideal for research, strategy sessions or when you need a comprehensive overview.

Use case: Ask Copilot to outline a complex project for stakeholders or dig into the details of a new business proposal.

5. Enhanced Copilot Search Experience

The new Copilot search on the web is more like using AI-powered search engines. You can ask Copilot for updates on projects and get summaries pulled from all your files across Microsoft 365. It’s a faster way to find what you need without digging through folders.

Use case: Get the latest status on a project or find key documents related to a client in seconds.

6. Copilot Agents and FAQ on SharePoint Pages

SharePoint now lets you add Copilot agents and AI-powered FAQ sections to your pages. You can set up agent links so your team can ask questions directly, and generate FAQs from source files. This helps teams stay informed and reduces repetitive queries.

Use case: Add an FAQ section to your project portal or set up an agent to answer common questions about a new initiative.

7. Free Copilot Access to Work Files

Even if you’re using the free version of Copilot, you can now access and summarise files from OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. This means more people can benefit from AI-powered productivity without needing a paid licence.

Use case: Summarise a press release stored in Teams or get a quick overview of a document in SharePoint.

These features are rolling out now or coming soon, so if you don’t see them yet, keep an eye out. Each one is designed to save you time and help you work smarter, not harder.
